Before the LSU May 16, 2013 Commencement,
guest speaker NPR's Cokie Roberts with Ariana Weir Harris (who led the singing
of the National Anthem and LSU Alma Mater). Ariana is singing this summer with
the Des Moines Metro Opera and then next year with the Nashville Opera.

Major General Jasper Welsh (Ret.) before receiving honorary
doctorate from LSU with LSU music student Ariana Weir Harris. Interesting note:
Major Gen. Welsh's late mother, Ora May Welsh, taught violin at LSU for over 30
years, and there is an endowed scholarship that bears her name.
