The Dean in Mexico City

In May I performed with the New York Philharmonic and this weekend (June 4th and 6th, 2010) I'm appearing with Orquesta Sinfonica Nacional (Mexico's National Symphony) in Mexico City. Carlos Miguel Prieto is the music director, and I have also performed with him and the Huntsville Symphony and more recently the Lousiana Philharmonic.  He is having tremendous (and well-desrved) recognition and success: two recent reviews:  Tortonto Symphony and Chicago Symphony.

Why is the Dean of the College of Music and Dramatic Arts out playing with orchestras? There are four answers, all of which are taken from the position description created in 2008 by the faculty of the CMDA in the search (2009) for a new Dean of the CMDA at LSU.

•Provides intellectual and artistic leadership by inspiring faculty, students, staff, donor partners, and professional colleagues.
• Identifies and leverages opportunities that will capture the imaginations of a strategic and broad range of leaders in business, technology, and the performing arts.
• Persuasively communicates the mission and vision of the College of Music & Dramatic Arts to a broad audience of stakeholders.
• Promotes collaborative opportunities internally and externally with the community, local and regional arts organizations.
